Clouds over Fort Fisher, oil on canvas, 2011
Sun on our shoulders and salt on our skin,
A warm breeze blows through the old oaks again.
We didn't find any shark teeth or teal sea-glass.
But the beach memories we made will surely last.
After we've washed all the sunscreen away,
we dress up real fancy for a nice dinner date.
Memories of golden sand and the years since we met,
Build our strength and love for the path we now set.
